A small church lies In the heart of Pohorje, at an altitude of 932 meters above sea level, in the middle of the sprawling Pohorje village of Resnik in the municipality of Zreče, with only 150 inhabitants,. The Church of St. Jacob on Resnik is one of the smallest churches in Slovenia, which has probably been standing in its place since the 15th century.

The legend of the church on Resnik

As the rumour goes, there is a legend that tells the story that the Church of St. Jacob was built by the Counts of Celje as a hunting chapel. In fact, there is no evidence of this.

Once surrounded by forest

Up until 1890, the church stood picturesquely in the middle of the larch forest, of which, unfortunately, there is no trace anymore.

Was Jacob ugly?!

The Parish Chronicle reports of the statue of St. Jacob's, which was kept in a porthole behind the altar and was "dreadfully ugly". During processions it was carried on a pole instead on a cross. The folk poet Jurij Vodovnik from Skomarje sang a mischievous song about the statue during one of such processions: »There was a chore to be done with Saint Jacob's.«

Recently refurbished

The idea of restoring the side altars was developed at the Skumavc's Art Days. The restoration work was entrusted to the restorer and academic painter Veljko Toman.
