Natural biotope of Partovec

The Partovec natural monument is a rare water biotope, home to aquatic and riparian animal and plant species.

The biotope covers the area of the pond and the stretch of forest located next to the pond. It is protected with the Decree on the Declaration of Natural Monuments. In the 19th century, the Count of Windischgrätz enclosed a part of Partovec with a fence and opened a stag park. In the vicinity of the pond is an old watering hole where local transporters used to come to provide water for their horses.

Do not miss out: Tourism walking trail Partovec

The circular tourist walking trail Partovec leads from Oplotnica to Gmajna to the directional sign on the walking path through the meadow, the forest, across the bridges to the pond. The path runs around the pond and leads us along the beutaiful forest path and meadow to the chapel and watering - place where once traders and others used to feed the cattle. Backt to Oplotnica, take the marked path past the farm to the road. Continue along the road to the Čadramščica stream, stick to the path along the stream, to the marked Roman road. Follow the Roman road back to the starting point of the route.

Points of interest: The Partovec Natural Monument contains various plant and animal species, including one of the few Slovenian freshwater bivalve molluscs: Potočni stržek.
