The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism (ZSST) is a national program and certification scheme under the umbrella brand SLOVENIA GREEN:
It combines all efforts for sustainable tourism development in Slovenia.
It provides destinations and providers with concrete tools to assess and improve their sustainable practices.
Through the SLOVENIA GREEN brand, it promotes sustainable operations.
The Slovenian Tourism Green Scheme is therefore a comprehensive system designed to accelerate the development of sustainable tourism in Slovenia, aimed at both destinations and individual tourism providers. Its goal is to increase competitiveness, quality, and innovation in Slovenian tourism. The scheme is based on the European Tourism Indicators System (ETIS) and the global GSTC tool, enabling comparison with green destinations worldwide.
The Rogla-Pohorje tourist destination (then Rogla-Zreče) joined the Slovenian Tourism Green Scheme in 2015 and achieved the SLOVENIA GREEN Destination Silver certification. In 2019, the destination underwent recertification with a broader composition: the municipalities of Vitanje, Oplotnica, and Slovenske Konjice joined Zreče, forming the current Rogla-Pohorje tourism destination. The destination received the SLOVENIA GREEN Destination Bronze certificate. Notably, this was the first time a destination as a whole approached certification.
Following this, the green team and wider stakeholders decided to pursue recertification in 2020, improving the sustainability assessment results. We are proud that our destination achieved the Slovenia Green Destination Gold environmental mark. This achievement was repeated in 2023, maintaining the gold award despite stricter criteria. This is proof of our commitment to sustainable tourism management, care for future generations, and confirmation that we are on the right path.
A green destination is not just a project, task, or responsibility of the applicant—the Rogla-Pohorje Tourist Destination. It can only be achieved collectively, involving all stakeholders in the destination: public, non-governmental, and private sectors—not only in tourism but across all areas of activity. Equally crucial are the residents of the destination. The Rogla-Pohorje destination must first and foremost be pleasant and welcoming for those who live and work here. Only then can visitors truly explore, feel and enjoy it.
