If you have visited Slovenske Konjice or plan to visit it, there is a good chance that you are familiar with the grandeur of the famous monastery, the Žiče Charterhouse. The quiet beauty prefers guests who come without noisy cars, along the beautiful trail that leads over Konjiška gora.
Trail Instructions:
The first part of the trail is exactly the same as the ascent to the most popular hiking spot in Slovenske Konjice – Skala, which you can therefore see almost incidentally. From Skala, continue in the same direction (the sign for Žiče Charterhouse will also guide you), following the narrow, charming path up to the top of Konjiška gora, where you will reach a sandy track from which you will start descending toward the Žiče Charterhouse. When you reach the paved road, turn left, passing a small bus stop and a larger farm. Here, turn right downhill.
Tip: If you prefer this part of the road instead of the forest path and sandy track, continue from the cemetery in Slovenske Konjice along the road toward Old castle below the cemetery. Instead of turning left toward Stari grad, continue straight in the direction of Trije križi (three crosses), after which you will reach the same paved road, small bus stop, and farm. Here, turn right downhill as well.
While descending toward the Žiče Charterhouse, follow the markings and signs for the Charterhouse at all times. A large part of the trail runs through meadows and tracks, and at the end, you will reach the forest, where the path will first lead straight along a level part of the forest, then guide you slightly to the right along a slightly steeper but fairly short path downhill. The forest edge reveals the Žiče Charterhouse, and you have reached your destination. You can return via one of the routes described above.
