On World Tourism Day, September 27, the Žička kartuzija Monastery traditionally opens its doors. This year, it will do so in celebration of the 860th anniversary of the Carthusians’ arrival in the Valley of St. John the Baptist.
On this day, visitors will be able to explore the Žiče Charterhouse independently with an audio guide or join a guided tour. On this occasion, GUIDED TOURS WILL BE FREE OF CHARGE, and we are also preparing special gatherings with local providers who co-create the Žička kartuzija Monastery experience.
PROGRAM:
10:00 – Guided tour of the Žička kartuzija Monastery: Discover the life of the Carthusians.
11:00 – Presentation of the Herbal Pharmacy at the Žička kartuzija Monastery, led by the Iršič family.
12:00 – Guided tour of the Žička kartuzija Monastery with conservation specialist Matija Plevnik (limited capacity; registration required at info@zickakartuzija.si or +386 3 752 37 32).
13:00 – Guided walk through the Monastery garden with Majda Temnik from the Majnika Herb Garden.
14:00 – Guided tour of the Žička kartuzija Monastery: Discover the life of the Carthusians.
15:00 – Presentation of pottery and the pottery studio of Rok Komel at the Žička kartuzija Monastery.
16:00 – Guided tour of the Žička kartuzija Monastery: Discover the life of the Carthusians.
Meeting point: in front of the Žička kartuzija Monastery Tourist Information Centre (Gastuž).
Right next to the Monastery proudly stands Gastuž (1467) – the oldest still-operating inn in Slovenia – where you can enjoy a pleasant meal, including the famous Carthusian Strudel.
On the second floor, you’ll find the top-class restaurant Spargus, offering authentic flavors of the highest quality. On this occasion, guests will be treated to special lunch discounts.
During your visit to the Žička kartuzija Monastery, you can also take a walk along the thematic energy trail “Silent Energies of the Žička kartuzija Monastery.”
Outside the scheduled guided tours (with audio guide), visitors enjoy a 50% discount on the regular ticket price. Citizens of Slovenske Konjice receive a 50% discount on regular tickets throughout the year.
