The Šalter ensemble combines free improvisation and composition while focusing on collective processes. The project, conceived by Jonas Kocher in collaboration with Zavod Sploh Ljubljana and the Izlog Zagreb Festival in 2017, operates as an international electroacoustic ensemble. The ensemble has performed at various venues and festivals in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, and Serbia. Their album "Štiri dela" was released in 2021. The current program of the ensemble features new compositions by Jonas Kocher & Gaudenz Badrutta, Elisabeth Harnik, and Tomaž Grom, developed specifically for the ensemble during a residency in Venice. Šalter is comprised of outstanding personalities from the music scenes of Switzerland, Slovenia, and Austria, particularly representing the Austrian region of Styria, spanning different generations and musical backgrounds, from jazz to traditional and folk music, as well as contemporary improvised and electronic music.
