Sala and Mandi are two salamanders who have made their home right here in Partovec. Let’s listen in on a glimpse of their everyday life...
Sala: “See this stone, Mandi? This is where we build our home each year. In the shade, nestled in moss and raindrops – a perfect refuge for a salamander.”
Mandi: “I picked a stone too! Only… mine was a bit... bigger. And it rolled into the pond. So now I have a wet bed.”
Sala: “Mandi... that’s exactly why we prefer stones that don’t move. Everything we need is right here – moisture, silence, and peace.”
Mandi: “Silence? Can silence sing? Because I heard silence once, and it sounded like me at night, dreaming I’m falling off a leaf.”
Sala: (smiling) “Welcome to Partovec, Mandi.”
CHALLENGE: THE SALAMANDER'S HIDDEN SPOT
Find a quiet corner in nature – near a rock, under a tree, or among bushes. Imagine you’re a little salamander – where would you build your hiding place?
Using natural materials (twigs, leaves, moss, pinecones), create a mini “salamander home.” Make it safe, soft, and hidden. Only use what you find on the ground – do not pick or tear anything.
Compare your “salamander home” with a friend’s – whose shelter is more rain-resistant (try dropping a little water on it)?
Then, sit next to it and write or tell: What would it be like to live here as a salamander?
Tip: When you're done, leave the home for nature – maybe a real animal will move in.
Did you know?
The salamander is mostly active at night and after rain. It’s a symbol of pristine nature and the delicate balance of the forest ecosystem. If you spot one – it means you're in a healthy environment.
